After opening the season with a split road trip, winning big at La Conner and putting up the good fight at Blaine before losing 2-0, the Liberty Bell High School girls’ soccer team made a Tuesday trip last week to Quincy to face the always-tough Jackrabbits of the 2A Central Washington Athletic Conference. Quincy lived up to their reputation, sending Liberty Bell home with a 6-0 loss.
“They were a really good soccer team,” said Liberty Bell coach Kelly Grayum. “We held them scoreless at 0-0 for the first 30 minutes, but two quick goals near the end of the first half took the wind out of our sails.”
For the Mountain Lions, it was a tough turnaround, going to Quincy for the Tuesday evening game after the weekend trip to the northwest corner of Washington. After 350 miles of bus rides on the weekend, then another 300 miles on Tuesday round trip, Grayum said the girls were tired.
“It was time to regroup and get ready for the league opener on Tuesday against Tonasket,” he said. That game was played at Liberty Bell after this week’s Methow Valley News went to the printer. Look for a full report in next week’s edition.
Thursday afternoon the girls travel to Chelan for a non-league match with the Goats, then follow that with two more road trips to Omak on Tuesday (Sept. 22) and Thursday (Sept. 24) to Cascade before their next home date on Sept. 26 against visiting Manson.
