Third-year crowdfunding effort exceeds 2016 donations
Give Methow, an online crowdfunding campaign hosted by the Community Foundation of NCW, has raised $220,533 for 32 Methow Valley nonprofits, the foundation announced last week.
This is the third year of Give Methow, and contributions again exceeded the previous year’s total. In 2016, the campaign generated $207,737 for 27 local nonprofits. In 2015, the campaign raised over $185,000.
“This is our third year of hosting the campaign, and the donations continue to grow,” said Beth Stipe, the foundation’s executive director. “People tell us they love to give this way because it’s so easy, and they learn about other programs happening in the valley. That’s exactly what we wanted to do when we first started these campaigns, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the community’s support.”
From Oct. 1 – 31, donations were made online at www.givemethow.org to support specific projects or general operations. Any 501(c)(3) public charity in the Methow Valley was eligible to participate to raise funds for up to $10,000 to support a specific program or general operations.
As a fundraising incentive, an anonymous donor seeded a $30,000 stretch pool to be distributed across the organizations based on how much they raised. An additional $2,000 was added to the pool by people who wanted to support all organizations, which allowed some Give Methow participants to exceed their goals.
Individuals who gave on Mondays were entered to win $500 or $1,000 to use on Give Methow any way they chose through the foundation’s “Funday Monday” contest. On the final Funday Monday, 375 donations were made totaling over $32,000.
Give Methow will run again in October 2018. For more information, visit www.givemethow.org.
