Loup Loup team finishes season
The Loup Loup Alpine Ski Team battled tough competition and severe weather at the recent Buddy Werner Championships held at Schweitzer Mountain in Idaho.
In the Super G race, Ali Palm finished 31st while Cailin Chandler had a ski come off about halfway down the course. In the GS, held in a driving rainstorm, Chandler was in 13th place and Palm was in 25th place after the first run. Then winds started gusting up to 70 miles per hours, so the second run was cancelled and the first-run places stood as final.
The Slalom race was held in a driving rain and snowstorm. Both Chandler and Palm missed gates on their first run and were disqualified.
This was the last race of the season for both girls, and their last race as U14s. Team coaches are Bret Alumbaugh and Ingrid Patterson.
Twenty teams from around the region sent a total of 110 girls and 95 boys to Schweitzer.
Back Country Horsemen set spring ride
The Methow Valley chapter of Back Country Horsemen will host its 31st annual spring trail ride on April 24–26. The day rides will cover about 7 miles of trails overlooking the Methow Valley and Okanogan National Forest. Riders will camp out at Beaver Creek Campground, south of Twisp off Highway 20. Other activities include a Dutch oven potluck, barbecue lunch, a “poker ride,” a silent auction and campfire entertainment each evening.
The ride helps raise funds for chapter projects such as trail maintenance and construction of the new horse campground that will be located on Loup Loup Pass.
