The Methow Valley Elementary School Math is Cool team comprised of four fifth-graders and one fourth-grader won the Division II Math is Cool state championship in masters competition at Moses Lake High School last Saturday (May 17), and did in it dominating fashion.

Fifth-graders Travis Grialou, Ian DeLong, Dusty Patterson, Maggie Moore and fourth-grader Gedi Weidig scored a total of 131 points, 27 ahead of their nearest opponent, to take the state title.

Scores on the individual tests placed Grialou third, Weidig, fifth, DeLong 15th, and Patterson 32nd. Moore was the team alternate.

Team parents expressed gratitude to volunteer parent-coaches Julie Grialou and Pete DeLong and special thanks to Mike Brands and the Math Enrichment Program for his help to prepare students to excel at such a competitive level.
