Wanita and Rodney Peterson of Twisp celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 30. The couple was married in 1954, shortly after Rodney returned from serving a military tour of duty in Japan and Korea.
They met in Skykomish when they were children, attended school together and for a while lived next door to each other. “I really was the girl next door,” said Wanita.
While living in Skagit County, they enjoyed coming to the Methow Valley to hunt and fish. They bought a retirement home on Beaver Creek in 1995. They have a son and a daughter, one grandchild and another expected soon.
In a marriage that lasts six decades “there are good days and not-so-good days,” Wanita said. “You just keep at it.”
