The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team’s long string of victories in the county championship meet came to an end last Saturday (Aug. 30) as the Brewster Bearacudas managed just four more points than the Whales to take first place in the Omak pool.
In a four-team meet with 112 events, the margin of victory was equivalent to losing by about half-a-stroke in a close race.
The Wagner Memorial Pool will celebrate its 50th birthday with a party on Sunday (Aug. 7), but the event may be slightly bittersweet.

The Twisp Town Council last week approved moving ahead to finish all of the work needed to resurface the Wagner Memorial Pool in order to repair leaking that has been a persistent …
As renovations of Twisp’s public swimming pool got underway last month, new problems with the pool have come to light and the town is facing a dilemma about the best way to move forward.
Not surprisingly, the biggest issue facing the town is lack of adequate funding to do the needed work on the Wagner Memorial Pool.
The Town of Twisp may ask voters to approve a small increase in the local retail sales tax to support street repairs, as opposed to a vehicle registration fee.
At its meeting last week, the council discussed how to proceed on a proposed Transportation Development District (TBD) that…
