January 8, 2020 by Don Nelson

As Liberty Bell High School boys’ basketball coach Kyle Acord pointed out, the Mountain Lions’ league game at Bridgeport on Saturday (Jan. 4) was a matter of shifting momentum. Unfortunately, it was the Mustangs who had the final surge in a 72-67 win over Liberty Bell. There were some good takeaways from the game. Junior […]

December 11, 2019 by Don Nelson

The Liberty Bell High School girls’ basketball team launched its season with two non-league games, taking a step up to a 1A opponent and a step down to a 1B foe with different results. But it could have been two wins for the Lady Lions if they had hit a few more free throws on […]

February 13, 2019 by Don Nelson

Mountain Lions’ late comeback can’t quite overcome Waterville-Mansfield

January 16, 2019 by Methow Valley News

The Liberty Bell High School boys’ basketball team outplayed visiting Waterville-Mansfield for the final three quarters last Friday (Jan. 11), but fell just short of recovering from a sluggish first quarter in a 40-39 loss.

Earlier in the season, the Mountain Lions beat the Shockers by the identical score at Waterville-Mansfield, and this one was just as dramatic. Liberty Bell had a shot at victory with just a few seconds on the clock, but could not convert. The loss left the Mountain Lions with a 2-7 record in league play, 3-10 overall.

Cold shooting resulted in the Mountain Lions trailing by 12-4 at the end of the first quarter. But three-pointers by Simon Studen and Dusty Patterson boosted Liberty Bell to a 19-19 tie just before the end of the half, which ended with Waterville-Mansfield up 22-19.

Liberty Bell girls pull away from Waterville-Mansfield for win

January 16, 2019 by Methow Valley News

The Liberty Bell High School girls’ basketball team shook off a slow start and finished with a rush to beat visiting Waterville-Mansfield, 60-51, last Friday (Jan. 11).

The victory, the Lady Lions’ eighth straight, avenged an earlier 45-42 defeat at Waterville-Mansfield, and kept Liberty Bell near the top of league standings. As of early this week, Brewster stood at the head of the pack with a record of 10-0 in league play, Waterville-Mansfield was 8-3, Liberty Bell 7-2 (10-3 overall) and Lake Roosevelt 7-3.

Thanks to a rash of turnovers, the Lady Lions had trouble even managing to get shots early in the first quarter, falling behind 9-2. The Shockers held a 12-8 advantage at the end of the first frame.
