Killer Whales dive into season with home meet on Saturday

The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team launches its 2017 season on Saturday (June 24) with a home meet, hosting the other three teams in its league: Brewster, Okanogan and Omak.

Competition begins at 9 a.m. at the Wagner Memorial Pool in Twisp.

Brewster edges past Killer Whales

The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team’s long string of victories in the county championship meet came to an end last Saturday (Aug. 30) as the Brewster Bearacudas managed just four more points than the Whales to take first place in the Omak pool.

In a four-team meet with 112 events, the margin of victory was equivalent to losing by about half-a-stroke in a close race.

As renovations of Twisp’s public swimming pool got underway last month, new problems with the pool have come to light and the town is facing a dilemma about the best way to move forward.

Not surprisingly, the biggest issue facing the town is lack of adequate funding to do the needed work on the Wagner Memorial Pool.
