Flood waters, road closures fail to dampen Cutthroat Classic

The 15th annual Cutthroat Classic trail run attracted over 300 participants to the North Cascades Rainy Pass starting line last Saturday despite road closures on portions of Highways 20 and 153 caused by recent post-wildfire flooding. Of the 301 who actually turned out for the run, at least 23 were local and one of those, James DeSalvo, finished third overall in the 11.1-mile, high-elevation event.

Fire, water cancel Angels, challenge Cutthroat

Unusual weather phenomena made their presence felt in two popular Methow Valley high-elevation, late-summer running venues this year,  forcing one, the Angels Staircase, to cancel and the other, the Cutthroat Classic, to scramble in order to restore trail conditions back to usable shape.

Cutthroat Classic draws another sellout roster

Another sellout roster of 424 runners signed up for the scenic Cutthroat Classic trail run last Saturday (Aug. 24), including 25 who wore local colors in the 11.1-mile high country event.
