Last week, during the first week of school, students from the Independent Learning Center engaged in a team-building design challenge, with five teams building a contraption intended to move a golf ball the farthest distance. Right: One team worked Thursday (Sept. 3) on the TwispWorks pavilion lawn, constructing a reproduction of the temple passageway from the famous opening scene of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Below: Members of the winning team enjoy doughnuts Friday (Sept. 4) as their first-place prize in the design challenge. The winning team’s hand-built trebuchet, which they named “Snake Shot,” launched their ball 115 feet — more than enough for the win.
