Poetry Slam postponed
The Poetry Slam Benefit for Jamie’s Place — “Aging Out Loud: Growing Up Together!” — that had been scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Last Chance Distilling in Twisp, is being postponed due to persistent low air quality in the valley. Jamie’s Place will look to reschedule this event after conditions improve.
New shows at Confluence
Two new exhibits will open at The Confluence: Art in Twisp on Aug. 25, with an opening reception on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 5-7 p.m. at the gallery.
• “Food for Thought,” curated by Bethany Wray, “seeks to bring together a diverse range of 2D, 3D and digital artworks that explore the many roles food plays in our lives — personal, cultural, aesthetic, and political,” according to a press release.
• “Oops We Painted” will feature a series of food-themed painted still-life works.

Film screening and discussion
“Mindwalk,” Bernt Capra’s 1990 film starring John Heard, Liv Ullman, and Sam Waterston, will be screened at The Confluence: Art in Twisp on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The free event will be from 6-9 p.m. Greg Wright will lead a discussion after the screening.
Book launch
“Embers, Poetry of Wildfire,” a new collection by Confluence Poets Merry Maxwell and Sam Owen, will have a book launch event on Friday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Winthrop library. The free event is hosted by Methow Press.
Fourth Friday at TwispWorks
TwispWorks’ Fourth Friday musical event on Aug. 28 will feature a free performance by EntreMundos Quarteto, from 7-9 p.m. The backup plan in case of smoke will be to move the show to the Methow Valley Community Center. Seattle-based EntreMundos Quarteto offers a kinetic mix of deep Brazilian roots flavored with world rhythms
‘Outside The Box’
On Sept. 5, Methow Arts and the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival present “Outside The Box” at the Pipestone Canyon Ranch, featuring the Portland Cello Project and their big band with singer Saeeda Wright in a Stevie Wonder tribute.
