The Killer Whales’ Sadie Michelsen took first in the 50-yard freestyle in the team’s recent win over Omak.
It was another dominant night in the pool for the Methow Valley Killer Whales as the local swim club recently scored 22 relay and individual first places and numerous other top-three finishes on their way to outpointing the Omak Manta Rays 471–201.
Again, it was mostly about sheer numbers as the Killer Whales had nearly a full complement of swimmers in the 96 scheduled events.
There were several very close races that provided some excitement for racers and fans. Killer Whale Millie Roseland’s win over teammate Athena Hodge in the girls’ 25-yard freestyle for 9-10-year-olds was by a mere fingernail at 17.39 seconds to 17.41, setting an early tone for the rest of the meet.
Sadie Michelsen beat out Omak’s Aliah Stroumbaugh in the 50-yard freestyle by .03 second and William Freese of Omak was first to the finish in the 15-18-year-old 50 yard freestyle, .7 second ahead of Methow Valley’s Quin Smith, who was followed by teammate Cassius Johnson by just .1 second in third place.
Astrid Stevie nosed out teammate Chloe Kolman in the girls’ 50-yard breaststroke by three-tenths of a second, 47.26 to 47.58, and Koen Peterson (1:13.65) edged Walter Roseland by .08 second in the same event for boys.
In a race that illustrated just how competitive the local program seems to be, the 9-10-year-old 100-yard freestyle relay for boys was a close, intra-squad battle as one Methow Valley team (Mikey Esmiol, Tadhg Acosta-Smith, Felix Anderson and Trapper Carr) held on to defeat a second Killer Whale team (James Carlton, Paxton White, Dominic Kolman, Lorenson Dominguez-McLeod) by just over one second, the winning time 1:45.67.
One last 2026 home meet took place at the Twisp Pool on Tuesday evening. The season-ending event is this Saturday at the Omak Pool. Racing gets underway at 9 a.m.
