Honors for Daily
Liberty Bell Junior High Cross Country Coach Liam Daily has been honored by the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association (WSCCCA) as their 2023 Coach of the Year. Just completing his fourth year at the helm of the Mountain Lion middle school program, Daily has built and maintained a roster that averages about 40 sixth- seventh- and eighth-graders, and garnered national attention by Athletic.net, the national on line clearinghouse for cross country and track results. Athletic.net had the Mountain Lion program ranked as their No. 1 nationally two seasons ago. Daily was honored at the WSCCCA annual convention and meeting this past weekend.
In other cross country news, the WSCCCA honored Liberty Bell athletes Dexter Delaney and Leki Albright for their performances at state this past season. Delaney, a junior, was named to the All-State list after his B class championship run in Pasco, and Albright, for her second place at state, earned a spot on their All-State Senior Class roster.
Backcountry permit fees
The North Cascades National Park Service Complex backcountry permit fee structure has changed from a per-permit fee to a per-person fee for backcountry camping permits. Backcountry permit fees are charged during the summer season, mid-May through early October, with no charge from early October through mid-May. Beginning in March, summer season backcountry permits will be $10 per person plus a $6 nonrefundable permit fee. There is no fee for youth 15 and under. This is a change from a $20 recreation fee per permit plus a $6 nonrefundable permit fee.
Revenue generated from backcountry permits helps cover the costs of administering the program, including contract support, compliance, resource protection, and administrative oversight.
