Twelve teams and 40-some athletes filled in three full brackets of competition in the second annual Methow Valley 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament last weekend at Liberty Bell High School.

The Methow Ballers won the four-team youth bracket, Lil Baby Elite snared the high school honors and His Name is My Name 2 won the open (adult) division. Each bracket had four teams, and most teams had four players, allowing for in-game substitutions.

Reed Brennan, Tucker Potvin and Keelan Welborn made up the first-place youth division winners, Methow Ballers. They defeated the Twisp Yellowjackets, 4-1, in the final. Lil Baby Elite players Jalen Northcott, Helaina Remsberg, Jayce Boesel and Remington Paz teamed up to down Radweye Elite, 14-10. The open bracket final saw John Ingman, Jacob Young, Nate Suhr and Jacob Schmidt (His Name, etc.) get the best of Ball Hawgz, 12-8.

Tournament organizer Liam Daily was pleased with the turnout, reporting “a few more teams than last year, and this was the first year for a youth division.” The event was a modest fundraiser for the Liberty Bell High School basketball programs. Each player received a commemorative T-shirt after paying the $60 entry fee.

A crew of volunteers served as court monitors (referees), clock operators and scorekeepers, and the local AAU Basketball Parents provided concessions for tourney-goers.

“We’re thrilled with the competitive nature of the event, and with the good work of our amazing volunteers,” said Daily.
