The Methow Valley School District has organized a grief workshop to help teens and young adults cope with the loss of Kierra Reichert, along with support and training for staff and students in advance of the school year.
The workshop is Wednesday (Aug. 9) at 6 p.m. in the Liberty Bell High School library. Facilitated by Oori Silberstein, the workshop is designed to provide teens and young adults with a safe space to mourn the loss of Reichert and to help them make sense of the grieving process.
Silberstein is a grief counselor and chaplain who lives in the Methow Valley. He has experience helping people through difficult losses. He works with individuals and groups and has a lot of experience with teens.
Silberstein and local nurse Sheila Brandenburg held a workshop for parents and community members last week to help them with the grieving process and to offer guidance in how they can support grieving teens. A handout from the workshop is available at http://methowfamily.com.
The Methow Family website also provides other resources for dealing with grief, contact information for local counselors, and ways to help Reichert’s family.
The school district is organizing specialized grief training for staff before the start of the school year.
