Herbert (Buzz) Maltais Jr., 84, was born in 1939 on Feb. 4 and passed away May 30, 2023.
He spent part of his youth in Arlington, Washington, and attended Trafton Elementary School. In 1950, the family moved to a ranch in Twisp, Washington, where they raised quarter horses, cattle, and hay. In his youth, he enjoyed riding saddle broncs at rodeos and hunting.
On July 27, 1957, he married Loretta Hanson in Twisp, and they were married almost 66 years. In July of 1958, they welcomed a daughter, Tamera, a son, Todd in 1960, and a daughter, Zandra in 1964. He usually had horses or mules and loved living in the Methow Valley. He worked building the North Cross State highway from 1970-1972 and worked in the logging industry falling trees, skyline logging, and driving logging trucks. He also fought wildfires with his own pumper trucks and water trucks through the years.
His parents, Herbert and Marie Maltais, sister, Darlene Hadfield, a niece, and nephew preceded him. He is survived by his wife, children, three grandchildren (Chloe, Charlie, and Cody), two great granddaughters (Livia and Nora), a brother (Mike) and several nieces and nephews. The family misses his presence in our lives.
