Environmental science students Renee Wehrly and Emma Burgess, who took part in the Cascades Carnivore Project last year, collected more than 50 samples of lynx scat in one day.
The Cascades Carnivore Project is inviting volunteers to take part in field research collecting Canada lynx scat on local trails to monitor the rare cats in the Cascades.
There will be an information session on Friday, July 14, at the Winthrop library from 6-7 p.m. All ages are welcome. A presentation will be followed by scat identification practice and a Q&A session.
The field research will be on Saturday, July 15, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., starting from TwispWorks. Prepare for several miles of hiking: bring food, water, sunscreen and bug spray. Best for ages 13 and older.
Participants are welcome to take part in one or both events.
Visit www.cascadescarnivore.org/contactus for more information and to RSVP for the events.
