Ken Madden, 64, of Mazama, Washington, passed away June 5, 2023.
Ken was a loving husband and devoted father who provided a wonderful life for his family. He raised his children to share his love of learning and of the outdoors. As with his family, he gave his time generously to the outdoors community. Ken spent the last 25 years involved actively with outdoors and trails organizations in Washington. He was a backcountry and glacier travel instructor with The Mountaineers and a member of the Northwest Motorcycle Association. Ken’s talents and interests were sweeping: he was a college gymnast, a civil engineer, a backcountry skier and mountaineer, a dirt bike and motorcycle rider, and a capable builder.
Ken had a deep love and appreciation for the Methow Valley. In 2011, Ken and his family put down roots in Mazama. He loved to explore the surrounding mountains in both summer and winter with friends from the Coulee Riders and to hike with his family.
Ken was an extraordinary teacher and he led his life with unwavering respect and humility. We carry in our hearts the lessons he taught us and the memories we shared together.
Ken is survived by his wife of 32 years, Monica, his daughter, Kelly, and his son, Ryan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northwest Motorcycle Association and the Methow Valley Trails Collaborative.
