Summer at the Loup
Loup Loup Ski Bowl is open for its summer season, offering scenic chairlift rides, hiking and biking trails, bike rentals for all ages, an 18-hole disc golf course, RV and tent camping, and food at the lodge. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays (including July 3-4) at the day lodge; Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (including holidays) 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the bike rental shop; Saturdays and Sundays (including holidays) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for chairlift rides and disc golf. Kids’ Fishing Day
Kids’ Fishing Day, at which kids can fish for free at the Winthrop Fish Hatchery, will be on Saturday (June 10), from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Activity booths and informational displays will be scattered around the site. Check out live macroinvertebrates, have a look at how humans imitate beavers, practice your water conservation skills, play with a stream model, and more. Two-wheeler events
The Methow Valley is host to an array of events to entertain, challenge and educate cyclists. Here’s what’s coming up soon.
• Saturday (June 10): Bike Skills Rodeo at Pearrygin Lake State Park. 10 a.m.-noon. Kids ages 5-10 learn skills to ride safely, and volunteers will conduct helmet and bike fittings and bike safety inspections. Bike helmets will be available for a $5 donation. Sponsored by Pearrygin Lake State Park, Winthrop Kiwanis, Okanogan County Fire District 6 and Methow Cycle & Sport.
• June 17-19: Singletrack Solstice Dig and Ride, presented by the Methow Chapter of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance. Weekend activities at The Loup include trail work, camping, shuttle rides and music. Register for one day or the whole weekend. Day use fees waived
The U.S. Forest Service is waiving recreation fees for day-use sites such as boat launches, trailheads and picnic areas on Saturday (June 10) in recognition of national Get Outdoors Day. Regular fees for camping, cabin rentals and other permits still apply. Concession operators may continue to charge fees.
Birdwatching with Craig
Methow At Home hosts a free birdwatching outing with Craig Olson on Sunday, June 18, starting at 8 a.m. at a location to be determined off Thompson Ridge Road. Bring your binoculars, water bottle and anything you need to be comfortable on a morning of walking and birding. Register at methowathome.org.
