Two Methow Valley residents were uninjured in a car-motorcycle collision Sunday (May 14) on Highway 20 near Mazama, but the motorcycle rider was airlifted to the Harborview trauma center in Seattle after the accident.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the car’s driver, Sarah Gilman, 41, of Winthrop, and passenger Ann Diamond, 61, of Mazama, were westbound on Highway 20 at about milepost 178, around 9:35 a.m., when Gilman slowed down and began a left turn. The motorcyclist, who was also westbound behind Gilman’s car, attempted to pass and then collided with driver’s side of the car, the State Police said. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder.
Gilman and Diamond, who were both wearing seatbelts, were not injured, the State Patrol said. The motorcyclist was identified as a 45-year-old man from Bellingham, but his name was not provided in the State Police report. The State Police said the motorcyclist was not wearing a USDOT compliant helmet.
It was not known if alcohol or drugs were involved, according to the State Police report.
Several valley residents also reported coming across the scene of a one-car injury accident on Highway 20 near the Weeman Bridge on Sunday evening, involving another injured person being airlifted to Harborview. The car was reportedly well off the road and had only one occupant. The State Police had not filed a report on the accident as of early this week.
