OVOC’S spring family concert
The Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus (OVOC) present their spring family concert on Saturday (March 25), at 3 p.m. at the Omak Performing Arts Center.
The concert includes OVOC’s tradition of inviting children to join the orchestra on stage for an up-close look.
The chorus will perform songs that children of all ages will enjoy, including “Children’s Songs,” a Chickasaw piece featuring cello and egg shakers; and “Prayer of the Children,” which includes a section in Ukrainian. An upbeat version of “Frog Went A-Courtin’” will get toes tapping. The chorus will also sing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Disney’s “Toy Story” and the sweet tune “Star Dance.”
The orchestra will perform classic favorites including the rousing “Light Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppé, the energetic and memorable “Peer Gynt Suite” by Edvard Grieg. They’ll also play “Ode to Joy Festival”, which highlights the popular chorus from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. “The Toy Symphony” (attributed to Leopold Mozart or Haydn) is an entertaining piece that features toys as orchestra instruments.
The concert showcases special performances by Kori Thornton, who’s been nominated for a Native American Music Award, and by pianist Dave McClure.
Admission is $10 for adults and free for everyone 18 and younger.
