
Taikoproject, a renowned ensemble of musicians who perform the traditional Japanese form of drumming known as taiko, will appear at the Winthrop Barn on March 11 in a presentation by Methow Arts.
The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance for adults; $22 at the door; $7 for children ages 5-15. Reserved seating is $30 for all ages. According to online sources, taiko is a Japanese word which can mean a drumming style, a drum group, drum music and a drum itself. There are a wide variety of shapes and sizes of taiko.
Taikoproject has performed and recorded with Stevie Wonder, Usher, Alicia Keys, A.R. Rahman, John Legend and many others They have performed on the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, and NBC’s “The Voice.”
Taikoproject was formed in 2000 in Los Angeles. “The group continues to define a modern American style of taiko, blending traditional forms with an innovative and fresh aesthetic,” according to its website, https://taikoproject.org. They became the first American taiko group to win the prestigious Tokyo International Taiko Contest.
