The new artwork hanging to either side of the Winthrop library’s sculpted sentinel cedar tree were woven (circa 1991) by the late Portland tapestry artist Judith Poxson Fawkes, and donated for public display by Methow Valley residents John Schoettler and Jeff Clapsaddle, who said: “We knew the Winthrop library would be the ideal home for the tapestries, and are pleased these gems can be enjoyed by the entire community.” The two hand-died linen inlay tapestries depict red alder and Douglas fir.
