Arts Briefs: Meet the artists, Swing dancing, Actors needed

February 15, 2023 by Methow Valley News

Meet the artists

The Confluence: Art in Twisp hosts a talk with artists represented in its current exhibits on Feb. 24 from 6 – 8 p.m. Attending will be “Hiraeth” artists Sandi Bransford, Janet Fagan, Salyna Gracie and Jennifer Loew; and “Birds, Bridges and Basalt” artist Abbie Birmingham. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. For information, call (509) 997‑2787.

Swing dancing

Methow At Home offers a series of swing dance lessons starting Feb. 17 and continuing Feb. 24, March 3 and March 10 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Twisp Valley Grange, with Jeff and Tracie Powney. For members, the cost is $20 for the series; for non-members the cost is $40. Register at methowvalleyhome.org.

Actors needed

The Merc Playhouse is looking for three cast members for its Readers Theater production of “The Lifespan of a Fact,” which will open in mid-April.

“The Lifespan of a Fact” is a stage adaption of a nonfiction book of the same title co-written by John D’Agata and Jim Fingal, which followed the real-life fact-checking process for a magazine-length narrative essay.

The cast is one woman and two men:

• The woman editor of a major national magazine.

• A just-out-of-college fact-checker for the magazine.

• A renowned national writer whose essay is being fact-checked.

Rehearsals will be in early April; there will likely be a few table readings before that. If interested, email editor@methowvalleynews.com. Scripts are available for review.
