The Great Outdoors Classic U12 youth hockey tournament was held at the Winthrop Rink last weekend, hosting 24 games played by 12 teams including the Winthrop Wolverines, Whatcom Warriors, Wenatchee Blades, Spokane Chiefs, Coeur D’Alene Thunder, Palouse Bears, Everett Silvertips, Seattle Junior Badgers, SnoKing Thunderbirds, Jr. Kraken, and Cloverdale (B.C.) Chargers. The Wolverines defeated Everett, 4-2, on Saturday morning, but lost to Palouse and Coeur D’Alene in their other two games. In the final round on Sunday, the local team fell to Wenatchee, 6-3. The championship game on Sunday saw Coeur D’Alene defeat Cloverdale, 5-1. Each 15-player team traveled as a family entourage, bringing big crowds to the valley.
