The Liberty Bell High School Knowledge Bowl team competed in the fourth meet of its six-tournament season in Okanogan on Monday (Jan. 23).
The meet matched seven North Central Schools. Okanogan, Manson, Tonasket and Liberty Bell are all competing for the top three spots to attend the state competition in March.
This year Tonasket, Okanagan and Manson have all won one of the previous three tournaments. Liberty Bell has placed fourth and third at those matches.
Seniors Rocco Wildman, Captain Angel Arellano and Graham Sheley, and juniors Robert Baerveldt and Kenny Hussey, have comprised Liberty Bell’s core team. On Monday, an exciting round pitted Liberty Bell, Manson and Okanogan against each other to answer 50 questions. At the end, each team answered 11questions correctly for a three-way tie.
In head-to-head matchups, Tonasket bested Liberty Bell 18 to 10. At the end of the evening, Tonasket won the match with 50 points, followed by Liberty Bell with 29, Manson 28 and Okanogan 26.
The Mountains Lions have two more regular-season tournaments in Wenatchee on Jan. 30 and in Omak on Feb. 8 before the regional competition in Wenatchee on Feb. 15. At the regional competition their performance will determine if they will return to state competition.
