January 18, 2023 by Methow Valley News

Take the bus and ski

Methow At Home invites you to take the TranGO bus for a skiing excursion to the South Summit trails at the Loup on Jan. 27, hosted by former park ranger and veteran skier Carolyn Loren. Bring your skis, lunch, water, etc., and meet at the TranGO Blue Star Coffee Roaster stop in Twisp at 10 a.m. The group will return on the 2:25 p.m. bus from South Summit. Register at methowathome.org.

Football team rings

An effort is afoot to fund the purchase of commemorative rings celebrating Liberty Bell High School’s 1B state championship football team, for the players and the team’s student volunteers. Each ring costs about $200 and the fundraiser goal is about $6,000. Contact Katie Paz at the Pony Expresso in Winthrop, or call (206) 947‑1726 for details on donating to the fund.

Backyard Ski Day

Methow Trails offers a day of free trail access on Backyard Ski Day, Friday, Jan. 27.

Free ski rentals and classes, and fat bike demonstrations, will also be offered. Stay tuned for more details, or visit https://methowtrails.org/events/backyard-ski-day.

Free group beginner ski lessons (skate and classic) will be available at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Creek Ranch Trailhead in Winthrop courtesy of the Sun Mountain Lodge Activities Shop and the Methow Valley Ski School.

‘Full Moon Fatbiking’

The Washington State Park Rangers Association is hosting a “Full Moon Fatbiking” event on the groomed trails at Pearrygin Lake State Park on Feb. 4, from 6 – 8 p.m. Hikers, snowshoers and stargazers are also welcome to join the free event. There will be a firepit and light refreshments provided by the rangers association, and telescopes will be set up for close-up views of the night sky. For information, email wastateparksrangerassociation@gmail.com.

Play volleyball

Open gym volleyball will be offered on Saturdays at 5 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m., in the Liberty Bell High School gym for levels B-BB. There is no charge. Call (509) 429‑0056 for information about scheduling.
