Community Briefs: Repair Café resumes, Seed swap at library, Family storytime

Repair Café resumes

Methow Recycles’ first Repair Café of 2023 will be on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m.-noon at The Cove in Twisp. Volunteers will be fixing anything from space heaters to winter coats, stuffed animals and power tools. Items must be small enough to be carried and not leaking fluids or be hazardous in any way. Be prepared to stay with your item during its repair, and bring any parts you think you may be needed. Visit http://methowrecycles.org for more information.

Seed swap at library

The Winthrop library will host a seed swap on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 2-4 p.m. Share your extra seeds and garden plans with others at the free event. Gardening books will be available to browse, and Classroom in Bloom representatives will be present to help answer gardening or seed-saving questions. Any extra seeds left over will be kept in a seed swap box at the library for all to access during the 2023 planting season. For information, email winthrop@ncwlibraries.org, or call (509) 996-2685.

Family storytime

The Winthrop library hosts a weekly storytime session with stories, songs and rhymes on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Storytime is a place for parents and caregivers to join in the fun and interact with their children This storytime is aimed at preschool-aged children, but all are welcome. Women’s Support Group

A Women’s Support Group will meet in the Gateway Room on the TwispWorks campus on Wednesdays starting this month. The sessions will start at 8:30 a.m. and will last until about 10 a.m.; doors open at 8 a.m. A donation of $10 is suggested for each session.

Group discussions, facilitated by Valarie McKenna, will include a variety of topics such as managing stress and anxiety, working through grief and loss, improving communication and boundaries, importance of self-care, food and mood, spiritual healing.

Get trivial

• Methow At Home hosts “pub style team trivia” on Wednesday (Jan. 11) from 3-5 p.m. at the home of Nancy Aadland in Winthrop. Snacks provided. To register, visit www.methowathome.org.

• Test your trivia memory on Thursdays with Ryan D at the Twisp River Tap House, from 6-9 p.m. Entry fee is $5, come solo or join a team.

Regional hydrogeology

The Okanogan Land Trust offers a free presentation with hydrogeologist Jason Shira on Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the PUD auditorium in Okanogan. Shira will discuss hydrogeology of our region, including how it relates to the Okanogan Watershed Plan, water use, and aquatic habitats. Coffee and cookies will be available.
