Sports Briefs: Ski Rodeo returns, Winthrop Trailhead parkrun, Snowshoeing in Mazama

Ski Rodeo returns

Methow Valley Nordic’s Ski Rodeo will be staged on Saturday, Dec. 31, on the Sean McCabe trails at Liberty Bell High School. The event starts at noon this year.

There will be five races from 1.4 to 10 kilometers, for all age groups, plus relays.

Entry fees through Dec. 25 are $10 for U18 categories and $20 for adults. Entry fees will increase to $15 for U18 and $25 for adults through noon, Dec. 28. There will be no race-day registration. The “lollipop race” for kids is free. Prizes will be provided by Nordic Ultratune.

Winthrop Trailhead parkrun

The Winthrop Trail parkrun — a free, weekly, timed 5-kilometer run/jog/walk — takes place at 9 a.m. on Saturdays starting from the Methow Trails parking on Horizon Flat Road. Open to all ages and all abilities. Leashed dogs welcome. Register at http://parkrun.us/register and bring along your personal barcode. Snowshoeing in Mazama

Methow At Home hosts a free snowshoe outing with former ranger Eric Burr on Saturday, Jan. 7, starting at 9:30 a.m. from the Mazama Store. Register at methowathome.org.
