Activity Park open house
Winthrop Kiwanis will host its second community open house to discuss its plans for a Family Activity Park next to the town ball field on Thursday (Nov. 17), from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Winthrop library community room. The free event is open to the public. Kiwanis representatives will present their updates proposals for the multi-purpose park and are seeking input from the community.
Under its “Fund a Dream” program, Winthrop Kiwanis has been contemplating major improvements to the existing pump track and ball field for several years. Updated plans include a skating area, pump track course, small kids’ play area, basketball court, water play area, connecting trails and pass-through gates to the ball field area, among other features.
Repair Café on Saturday
This month’s Repair Café, hosted by Methow Recycles, will be on Saturday (Nov. 19) from 9 a.m. – noon in the Your Space room at TwispWorks. Repairable items will be fixed for free — including sewing, tool sharpening, electrical, mechanical, wood fixes, and bicycle repairs. Items must be small enough to be carried and not leaking fluids or be hazardous in any way. Bring any part you may need to complete the fix. For information, emailaspen@methowrecycles.org.
Amateur Radio Club meets
The Methow Valley Amateur Radio Club (MVARC) meets every third Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Twisp American Legion building, 626 Bridge St. The next meeting is Saturday (Nov. 19) at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in ham radio may attend. You do not have to be a ham operator.
The club is also hosting a pancake feed at the Twisp American Legion Building on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. Suggested donation is $10. For information, email MethowValleyHams@gmail.com.
L&I workshop
The Economic Alliance is sponsoring a workshop for all employers in Okanogan County to learn about the upcoming changes in the Labor & Industries rate for 2023 on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 10 a.m. – noon at the 12 Tribes Resort Event Center in Omak. Get ready for Madness
It’s not too soon to think about Christmas if you would like to be a vendor if you’d like to be vendor as part of Twisp’s annual holiday shopping and celebration known as Mistletoe Madness. The event is scheduled for Dec. 9 from 3 – 7 p.m. on Glover Street and the TwispWorks campus. For information, visit http://twispwa.com/mistletoe-madness.
Businesses throughout Twisp will offer discounts, drawings, cookies, cider and adult beverages. The Winter Market will showcase a variety of artists, makers and crafters. Carolers will stroll the streets, and students with Cascadia Music will perform at The Confluence. Horse-and-carriage rides will also be offered. And of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance. The day ends with ugly sweater raffles at the Branding Iron, OSB Taproom and Twisp River Tap House.
FYRE gets grant
The Foundation for Youth Resiliency and Engagement (FYRE) in Omak will receive $10,000 as part of a $250,000 grant by Community Health Plan of Washington, intended to benefit community-based organizations serving marginalized people across Washington state. According to a press release, the Community Health Plan’s mission is “to ensure all people — regardless of race, ethnicity, immigrant status, disability, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or income — have an equal opportunity to access quality, whole-person care.” FYRE serves all Okanogan County Youth whose mission is “to advocate for equitable opportunities that allow all youth to thrive.” For more information, visit https://okfyre.org.
