Parent to Parent meeting
Okanogan County Parent to Parent presents a meet-and-greet for special needs families on Saturday (Nov. 12), from 10 a.m. – noon at the Winthrop library. The events include resources, refreshments, prizes, cotton candy and activities for kids.
Grief as opportunity
Methow At Home presents “Grief as an Opportunity,” with grief counselor Therese Johnson, on Monday (Nov. 14) from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Methow Valley Wellness Center in Winthrop. Register at www.methowathome.org.
Spinners and Weavers Guild sale
The Methow Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild hosts its seasonal Show and Sale on Nov. 18 and 19 at 137 Old Twisp Highway, from 2 – 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday. Items for sale will include handcrafted fiber arts created by guild members, such as handwoven towels, blankets, rugs, scarves, handspun yarns and more. Cash or checks only.
Repair Café on Nov. 19
This month’s Repair Café, hosted by Methow Recycles, will be on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. – noon at Dwight Filer’s shop, 201 Johnson St. in Twisp. Repairable items will be fixed for free — including sewing, tool sharpening, electrical, mechanical, wood fixes, and bicycle repairs. Items must be small enough to be carried, and not leaking fluids or be hazardous in any way. Bring any part you may need to complete the fix. For information, email aspen@methowrecycles.org.
Amateur Radio Club meets
The Methow Valley Amateur Radio Club (MVARC) meets every third Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Twisp American Legion building, 626 Bridge St. The next meeting is Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in ham radio may attend. You do not have to be a ham operator.
The club is also hosting a pancake feed at the Twisp American Legion Building on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. Suggested donation is $10. For information, email MethowValleyHams@gmail.com.
Activity Park open house
Winthrop Kiwanis will host its second community open house to discuss its plans for a Family Activity Park next to the town ball field on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Winthrop library community room. The free event is open to the public. Kiwanis representatives will present their updates proposals for the multi-purpose park and will be seeking input from the community.
Under its “Fund a Dream” program, Winthrop Kiwanis has been contemplating major improvements to the existing pump track and ball field for several years. Updated plans include a skating area, pump track course, small kids’ play area, basketball court, water play area, connecting trails and pass-through gates to the ball field area, among other features.
Christmas Bazaar returns
Here’s a great opportunity to shop local during the holidays: The Methow Valley Community Center’s Christmas Bazaar is back for two days, on Nov. 19 and Dec. 3, with more than 60 vendors. The free event will be from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Find an eclectic array of locally made arts and crafts, food, photography, jewelry, quilts, honey, pottery, handmade vinegar, spices, clothing, wreaths, mittens, books, Christmas cards, wreaths, paintings and more. Bluebird celebrates new facility
Bluebird Grain Farms will host a celebration of its new granary facility on Highway 20 at the intersection with Twin Lakes Road on Saturday, Nov. 19. Support fireworks
Winthrop’s annual Christmas at the End of the Road celebration, set for Nov. 25 – 26, will again feature a fireworks show on Saturday evening, made possible by community donations. The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce is soliciting donations from local businesses, organizations and individuals.
