Readers Theater show opens Nov. 4 at The Merc

October 26, 2022 by Methow Valley News

The Merc Playhouse presents a Readers Theater production, “Battle of the One-Acts,” opening Nov. 4 and continuing through Nov. 13.

The production, directed by Phil Quevillon, features three short plays:

• “Mere Mortals,” by David Ives, which “eavesdrops on a lunch hour on a girder 50 stories over the street, as three construction workers share increasingly amazing secrets of their past,” according to information on The Merc’s website.

• “Time Flies” — also by David Ives —according to The Merc, “catches up with two lonely but sweet young mayflies who meet at a pond and really hit it off. Unfortunately, Horace and May watch a nature program on this first night out and discover they have a lifespan of only one day — and their lives are half over.”

• “The Butleress,” by Nick Stoller, is “a nicely ridiculous comedy-horror play within a play,” according to The Merc. “Four women meet at the local community theater to rehearse an obscure English mystery-drama. As real life and onstage plot become entangled, it’s clear these are four ladies who are never going to lunch together. Then it gets worse.”

Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time. Tickets are $10 at the door; there are no advanced sales. Admission is by donation on Thursday, Nov. 10.
