Halloween hangouts
As of press time, we had learned about some Halloween events that are open to the public:
• Twisp’s Burgar Street will be in full costume, disguised as a very spooky place. Expect traffic control for the busy venue.
• Community Covenant Church in Twisp hosts a “Trunk or Treat” from 4:30 – 6 p.m. There will be a fire pit, hot cider and tractor rides.
• Cascade Bible Church in Twisp hosts a “Trunk of Treat” from 4:30-6 p.m., incluing hay rides.
There was no word whether there would be a Trunk or Treat event in Winthrop.
Free breakfast for vets
The Methow Valley American Legion Post No. 143 in Twisp is hosting a free pancake breakfast for all local veterans and their families on Thursday (Oct. 27) at 10 a.m. Stop by the post to enjoy a simple breakfast and share stories
Give Methow challenge
The Methow Valley nonprofit community has an opportunity to share a $50,000 challenge gift if the total amount raised by the current Give Methow campaign goes over $350,000: $50,000 will be added to the “Give to All” match pool, which will be shared equally by participating organizations. That’s an extra $1,200 per organization.
Give Methow, which continues through October, is hosted by the Community Foundation of NCW. This year, 40 Methow Valley nonprofits are participating. Donate on a Monday and your name is entered to win $500 to use on Give Methow. For more information, visit www.GiveMethow.org.
School retirees meet
The Okanogan County School Retirees’ Association will meet at 11:15 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 28) for a no-host luncheon meeting at El Torito’s Bar and Grill, 914 Koala Drive, Omak. Attorney Bess Derting’s presentation will be, “Seniors Think! Plan Ahead!” For information, call (509) 429‑0292.
All about bees
The Methow Conservancy’s “First Tuesday” program on Nov. 1 will be “Masons, Miners, and Thieves — The Real Lives of America’s Bees,” presented by Paige Embry, author of “Our Native Bees.” The free event, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Winthrop Barn, is described as “a window into the fascinating world of native bees.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for honey tasting. Remembering
Methow At Home will host an online “Day of Remembrance” to share stories about loved ones who have passed away on Nov. 2, starting at 4:30 p.m. Register at www.methowathome.org.
Room One new hours
Room One in Twisp is now open on Tuesdays, closed on Fridays. Hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Community members can always leave a message on the confidential answering service at (509) 997‑2050.
Support fireworks
Winthrop’s annual Christmas at the End of the Road celebration, set for Nov. 25 – 26, will again feature a fireworks show on Saturday evening, made possible by community donations. The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce is soliciting donations from local businesses, organizations and individuals. To take part, mail a check to Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, P.O Box 39, Winthrop, WA 98862.
Parent to Parent meeting
Okanogan County Parent to Parent presents a meet-and-greet for special needs families on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. noon at the Winthrop library. The events include resources, refreshments, prizes, cotton candy, and activities for kids.
Grief as opportunity
Methow At Home presents “Grief as an Opportunity,” with grief counselor Therese Johnson, on Nov. 14 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Methow Valley Wellness Center in Winthrop. Register at www.methowathome.org.
Bluebird celebrates new facility
Bluebird Grain Farms will host a celebration of its new facility on Highway 20 at the intersection with Twin Lakes Road on Saturday, Nov. 19. The facility will be open for drop-ins, tours, snacks, demonstrations, drinks, and shopping from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be walk-through tours at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. RSVP for a tour by visiting https://bluebirdgrainfarms.com.
Get ready for Madness
It’s not too soon to think about Christmas if you would like to be a vendor if you’d like to be vendor as part of Twisp’s annual holiday shopping and celebration known as Mistletoe Madness. The event is scheduled for Dec. 9 from 3 – 7 p.m. on Glover Street and the TwispWorks campus. For information, visit http://twispwa.com/mistletoe-madness.
Businesses throughout Twisp will offer discounts, drawings, cookies, cider and adult beverages. The Winter Market will showcase a variety of artists, makers and crafters. Carolers will stroll the streets, and students with Cascadia Music will perform at The Confluence. Horse-and-carriage rides will also be offered. And of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance. The day ends with ugly sweater raffles at the Branding Iron, OSB Taproom and Twisp River Tap House.
