Twisp’s temporary town hall on East Second Avenue will be closed from Oct. 4-16 while staff moves into the town’s new civic building and regional communications center across the street.
Mayor Soo Ing-Moody said in an email that the closure will “facilitate the big move and enable staff to get reorganized in the new space, while allowing contractors to continue working outside.”
It is anticipated that the building will be open to the public on Monday, Oct. 17, and the official public celebration event originally planned for Oct. 7 is now set for Saturday, Oct. 29.
Public Works Director Andrew Denham said construction will continue on the street, sidewalk and plaza improvements that have required the temporary closure of Glover Street at its intersection with Third Avenue. Completion is set for the end of October, he said. Glover Street will remain closed during that time, Denham said.
The move-in has been delayed a couple of times because while the internal work is essentially finished, the exterior work made access to the building problematic.
Construction on the new building, which has been in the works for more than 10 years, began last year. It is built on the site of the old town hall, which was demolished.
Making contact
Although Twisp town offices will be closed if the anticipated move-in to the new civic building starts next week, town officials will be checking emails — although they may not be able to respond as promptly as usual. The town’s Public Works Department, which operates out of a separate building, will be accessible by phone and email.
Check the town’s website, www.townoftwisp.com, for information about email addresses including the mayor and town employees.
Police emergency calls should continue to be directed to 911.
