Community Briefs: Mindfulness class, Help with Shafer buildings, After school at the library

Mindfulness class

A six-week class on mindfulness will be offered by Sharon Cohen at The Cove II in Twisp starting Thursday (Sept. 15) and continuing through Oct. 20. The classes will be from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. The first session is free; cost for the entire course is $60, sliding scale accepted; free to clients of The Cove. Help with Shafer buildings

Historic conservation specialist Chris Gustafson from Vintage Windows & Wood Restoration in Astoria, Oregon, will be at the Shafer Museum in Winthrop Sept. 16 – 25 to lead volunteer crews in cleaning and treating the log cabins at the museum. After school at the library

The After School Club starts this week at the Winthrop public library. Every Wednesday from 2:15 – 3:15 p.m. there will be a different activity for elementary and middle-schoolers. School bus route No. 7 stops at the library at 1:55 p.m. If that is not the student’s regular route, they will need to get a permission slip.

Each first Wednesday is STEM Club; second Wednesday is LEGO Club; third Wednesday is Maker Club featuring arts and crafts; fourth Wednesday is Art Club. Advance sign-up is required. For information, call (509) 996‑2685.

The history of ice

The Methow Valley Interpretive Center in Twisp hosts “Vanishing Ice on Planet Earth,” a free presentation by professor Dr. Bob Carson, on Sunday (Sept. 18) at 5 p.m. Visit www.methowvalleyinterpretivecenter.com for information.

CAR SEAT CHECKUP

Aero Methow Rescue Service sponsors its free annual Car Seat Roundup and Seat Check on Tuesday (Sept. 20) from 1-5 p.m. at the Hank’s Harvest Foods parking lot. Bring your unsafe/unused/expired car seats for disposal. Car seat checks will also be conducted. Email tremsberg@aeromethow.org for information.

RADIO CLUB BREAKFAST

The Methow Valley Amateur Radio Club hosts a fundraiser breakfast on Sept. 24 at the American Legion Hall in Twisp from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Suggested donation is $10. Call (509) 322-5652 for information.
