Sports Briefs: Mountain Bike Club, Lewis Butte/Riser Lake trailhead closed

September 7, 2022 by Methow Valley News

Mountain Bike Club

The Methow Valley Mountain Bike Club announced that registration is open for the Washington Student Cycling League fall season. Find basic information at https://mailer.washingtonleague.org, and a link registration at https://washingtonleague.org. The registration code is Methow_22 . If you have questions, email Hanz Scholz at hanzscholz@gmail.com.

Lewis Butte/Riser Lake trailhead closed

The Lewis Butte/Riser Lake trailhead in the Rendezvous unit of the  Methow Wildlife Area north of Winthrop will be closed for renovations from Sept. 12 through Sept. 30. People will still be able to access the trail via the Haas Homestead on Gunn Ranch Road, less than 1 mile west of the trailhead.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), which manages the wildlife area, will double parking capacity at the trailhead and replace the existing vault toilet with a new ADA-accessible restroom. They will add an ADA-accessible parking spot and a paved path to an accessible picnic table.

The trailhead provides access to both the Riser Lake trail system and the newly redeveloped Lewis Butte trail across the road, offering almost 10 miles of nonmotorized trails for hiking, running and mountain biking. These improvements have increased use of the trails.
