The Methow Valley Killer Whales swim team closed out their 2022 season at the Okanogan County Summer Swim League Championships in Omak on Saturday (July 30), with the boys outscoring the field for first place and the girls taking a close second.

The boys and girls combined to take the team title, easily outpointing second-place Omak, 741-574. Okanogan was third with 450 total points, and Brewster placed fourth with 404.

The sister-brother combination of Nyah and Shad Frantz led the way for the local swimmers, as 13-year-old Nyah took first-place honors in six 13-14 year old events while 16-year-old Shad earned six first-place ribbons in the 15-16 year old division.

Nyah was the winner in the 200-meter freestyle, 50M backstroke, 200M individual medley, 100M breaststroke, and swam a leg in each of the Methow Valley’s first-place 200M medley and freestyle relays.

Shad’s blue ribbons came in the 200M freestyle, 50M freestyle, 50M backstroke, 200M individual medley, 50M breaststroke and he added a second place in the 50M butterfly. He was also the anchor on the first-place boys 17-18 200M freestyle relay team.

In other top performances, 8-year-old Montana Spellman had four victories on the day and 14-year-old Gavin Blank also grabbed four race titles for the Killer Whales. Other Methow Valley individual winners included Grey Patterson, Olive Frady, Alex Ramsay-George, Cassius Johnson, Clara Ramsay-George, Lillian Overbeck, Soren Strauss and Zoie Dubowy.

Relay victories

The Killer Whales also had some success in the relays, taking first place in seven events, four for the boys and three for the girls.

Ethan Miller, Eldon Smith, Danny McAuliffe and Finnbarr Humling were tops in the boys 9-10 100M medley. Soren Stevie, Gavin Blank, Alex Ramsay-George and Yolo Salas teamed up for the victory in the 13-14 boys 200M medley relay. Stevie later anchored the 200M freestyle relay to victory with teammates Gavin McAuliffe, Calvin Simmons and Zach Dubowy.

The older boys added their fourth win of the day in the final event, the 200M freestyle for 17-18 year old boys. Anchored by Shad Frantz, swimmers Grey Patterson, Sam Patterson and Finn Simmons cruised to a 7-second win over Okanogan.

In the girls 11-12 division, the Killer Whale team of Nova Gehring, Zoie Dubowy, Clara Ramsay-George and Adelina Humling took first place in the 200M medley relay with a comfortable 10-second win. The 13-14-year-old local girls took two relay wins in the 200M medley and 200M freestyle. Helaina Remsberg, Olive Frady, Nyah Frantz and Marit Nelson nipped Brewster’s Bearacuddas by 4.5 seconds in the medley, changing the order for the freestyle and coming up with the same result and a 9-second win over Brewster.
