Donald Ray Stivers

July 27, 2022 by Methow Valley News

Donald Ray Stivers

Don was born in 1951 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Donald B. and Margaret Stivers. Due to his dad’s Navy career, Don grew up all around the U.S. and Bermuda but chose to settle in the Pateros area where his grandparents had years before established roots.

After high school, Don served in the U.S. Army, then attended Wenatchee Valley College. The summer after graduation from WVC, he was offered a “temporary” summer job with UPS in Omak which turned into a 32-year career. He delivered packages throughout Okanogan county including many years serving the Methow Valley. During his years with UPS, he also farmed and accomplished his lifelong goal of building his own home on his property in the Methow.

After retirement, Don continued working on and improving his property, went fishing with friends and fixed up an old family truck. Don was an admired, skilled and hard-working man who enjoyed his active life and a good conversation. Sadly, both were limited by Parkinson’s shortly after retirement. Don passed July 2, 2022, at his home.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ardith, his brother and sister-in-law Jeff and Cheryl Stivers, Hanford, California, their son Rusty and daughter Wendi and grandchildren. He is also survived by aunt Doris Malone, Gig Harbor.

He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife’s family who had become his own, Nada Buchanan, Danny Buchanan, Ralph and Wendy Buchanan, all of Pateros, Janet and Charley Chamberlain, Wenatchee, and Linda Hosking, Oroville.

Barnes Chapel, Brewster, was in charge of arrangements. No service will be held at this time.
