Killer Whales sink Bearracudas in dual meet

July 20, 2022 by Rick Lewis

The Methow Valley Killer Whales hosted Brewster’s Bearracudas in a twilight swim meet Tuesday evening (July 12) at Wagner Memorial Pool in Twisp.  Returning the favor from an early season meet at Brewster won by the Bearracudas, the host team swept to a 398-226 combined meet victory, the girls outpointing the visitors 194 points to 143 and the boys swimming to a 191-83 win.

Assistant coach Bo Thrasher attributed the Killer Whales’ showing in both the dual meet and the full league meet two weeks ago to larger numbers of swimmers and an increasing interest in competition.

“I think it has to do with a growing team camaraderie and excitement about racing”, said Thrasher.  “(They’re) also learning and feeling more confident.”

The Killer Whales traveled to Okanogan for a larger invitational meet last Saturday, for which results were not available. The Brewster Invitational happens this Saturday (July 23) for the local swimmers, followed by two trips to Omak. The first is on Tuesday (July 26) for a dual meet with Omak. On Saturday, July 30, the season comes to a close with the League Championships, also at the Omak pool.
