The Confluence: Art in Twisp has named Betsy Fetherston, an experienced art gallery director, as its new Executive Director.

Confluence said in a press release that Fetherston will start in her now position in late summer or early fall.

The gallery and art center has been looking for an executive director for several months, since the departure earlier this year of former Executive Director Kaileah Akker.

Salyna Gracie, who was executive director of The Confluence for four years, returned to that role on an interim basis in April. Gracie served as executive director of the recently rebranded gallery from 2014 – 18.

According to a Confluence press release, Featherston brings “both commercial and nonprofit gallery experience after owning the Fetherston gallery, and later as the director of the nonprofit Columbia City Gallery [in Seattle].”

At the Fetherston Gallery, Fetherston represented more than 30 Northwest and national contemporary artists, according to the release. She was also a member of the Seattle Art Dealers Association and involved in the Capitol Hill community. Featherston also oversaw two major gallery space renovations, the release said.

During her tenure at Columbia City Gallery, the gallery partnered regularly with other nonprofit arts organizations such as Pratt Fine Art Center Art, the Pacific Northwest African American Quilters Association, and PATH with Art, according to the Confluence release.

“For most of my career I have helped to foster and support visual artists,” Featherston said in the release. “I thoroughly enjoy working with and learning from creatives of all types. Being part of these creative communities has been what makes my work so enjoyable. I look forward to joining The Confluence, learning from and supporting the community, and being a part of its future.”
