Eat and support Ukraine
Local student Sam Polson has organized a “Dine Out for Ukraine” fundraising campaign to support World Central Kitchen’s work in the war-torn country. On Thursday (July 14), the following valley restaurants will share a portion of their profits with the fundraising effort: Old Schoolhouse Brewery, East 20 Pizza, Arrowleaf Bistro, Methow Valley Ciderhouse and the Little Dipper. Fourth Friday at TwispWorks
TwispWorks hosts its Fourth Friday gathering on July 22. Campus partners will have their studios open from 4 – 7 p.m., with live demonstrations from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Live music will be presented on the Pavilion state from 6 – 8 p.m. For information visit twispworks.org.

- “Suicide Prevention Training” with psychologist Julie Rickard, online on July 22 from 9 – 11:30 a.m. This training will teach risk factors, warning signs, protective factors, and how to have a conversation related to suicide.
- “Let’s Talk About Fostering Community,” on July 28, 4 – 5 p.m. at a site to be determined, with Joel Reid and Sarah Thomas from the Methow Housing Trust
- “Senior Housing Options on the Horizon,” online on Aug. 2, 4 – 5 p.m., with Gary Galeucia.
Second Mile Ranch celebrates
The Second Mile Ranch on Poorman Creek, west of Twisp, will have a 50th anniversary celebration on July 29 – 30. There will be a potluck at 331 Poorman Creek on Friday night at 6 p.m., followed by reminiscing, general cavorting and gamboling, and a picture show of activities and personalities going back 50 years. Saturday will be a day of gathering and more reminiscing. Open to all; bring stories and memories.

Rose Weagant of Twisp has been initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Central Washington University. Weagant is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only.
Lindsay Worrell of Winthrop, a 2021 graduate of Liberty Bell High School, has been selected by the faculty of Reed College to receive the “Commendation of Excellence” in scholarship for the 2021 – 22 academic year. Worrell will be a sophomore at Reed this fall and is majoring in political theory and philosophy.
Clean up the river
Be part of a valley-wide cleanup project on the Methow’s rivers and creeks on Aug. 13. Volunteers will remove trash from legally accessible areas along the Methow River and its tributaries. Trash drop stations will be set up at several locations in the valley.
Registered participants will be entered into a drawing for half-day rafting trip for two on the Methow River courtesy of Methow Rafting.

County Fair royalty
The Okanogan County Fair is seeking fair royalty candidates for 2023. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 – 19 and a past or present Okanogan County Fair participant.
Applications can be found online at okanogancounty.org, or at the Okanogan County Fair Office, 175 Rodeo Trail, Okanogan. Applications must be turned into the Fair Office by Aug. 1. Horsemanship is not a requirement. For more information, call (509) 322‑2477.
MVID seeks board member
The Methow Valley Irrigation District (MVID) is seeking candidates to fill a position on the district’s board of directors left vacant by the death of director Greg Nordang. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the state, and hold title or evidence of title to assessable land in the district.
The vacancy will be filled by appointment by the board of county commissioners. MVID will make a recommendation from among the candidates who express interest. The appointee will serve for the remainder of this year. MVID will hold an election for a director to fill the remainder of the term this fall.
