Glider pilots from around the Northwest annually gather at the Methow Valley State Airport to take advantage of the local thermals for flights than can last for hours and reach dizzying altitudes. More than 30 of the quiet craft were at the airport for several days last week. Most of the gliders accommodate only the pilots, but tandems can also carry a passenger.
