Fly-in breakfast at Twisp Airport

The annual Fly-in, Cruise-in and Pancake Breakfast is back at the Twisp Municipal Airport on Saturday (July 2) from 7 – 11 a.m., featuring not only airplanes and pilots but also Aero Methow Rescue Service and representatives of law enforcement and firefighting agencies. The Methow Valley Motorheads will also be on hand with antique and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Breakfast, prepared by the Twisp Pilots Association, includes pancakes, ham, eggs, blueberries and whipped cream, coffee and juice. For more information, call (509) 341‑4989.

Student news

Dylan Bosch of Methow and Raffaella Jarvis of Twisp have been named to the dean’s list at the University of Washington for the fall 2021 quarter.

Methow At Home Events

Methow At Home sponsors a series of free events in the coming weeks. Register at methowathome.com.

  • Learn about training as a volunteer on Friday (July 1) from 9 – 10 a.m., with Program Manager Deirdre Cassidy. Volunteer activities include driving people to appointments or shopping, assisting with yard work, handyperson services, companionship and more. Register at methowathome.org, where you will find a link to the online event.
  • “Ride Share Options,” a videoconference on July 12 at 4 p.m., with Dana Golden of Resilient Methow. Learn about existing efforts around local transportation and help brainstorm ideas.
  • “Suicide Prevention Training” with psychologist Julie Rickard on July 22 from 9 – 11:30 a.m. This training will teach risk factors, warning signs, protective factors, and how to have a conversation related to suicide.

MVID seeks board member

The Methow Valley Irrigation District (MVID) is seeking candidates to fill a position on the district’s board of directors left vacant by the death of director Greg Nordang. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the state, and hold title or evidence of title to assessable land in the district.

The vacancy will be filled by appointment by the board of county commissioners. MVID will make a recommendation from among the candidates who express interest. The appointee will serve for the remainder of this year. MVID will hold an election for a director to fill the remainder of the term this fall. If interested and qualified, send a letter of interest to the MVID secretary at mvid2019@centurytel.net.

Second Mile Ranch celebrates

The Second Mile Ranch on Poorman Creek, west of Twisp, will have a 50th anniversary celebration on July 29 – 30. There will be a potluck at 331 Poorman Creek on Friday night at 6 p.m., followed by reminiscing, general cavorting and gamboling, and a picture show of activities and personalities going back 50 years. Saturday will be a day of gathering and more reminiscing. Open to all; bring stories and memories.

Clean up the river

Be part of a valley-wide cleanup project on the Methow’s rivers and creeks on Aug. 13. Volunteers will remove trash from legally accessible areas along the Methow River and its tributaries. Trash drop stations will be set up at several locations in the valley.

Registered participants will be entered into a drawing for half-day rafting trip for two on the Methow River courtesy of Methow Rafting.

County Fair royalty

The Okanogan County Fair is seeking fair royalty candidates for 2023. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 – 19 and a past or present Okanogan County Fair participant.

Applications can be found online at okanogancounty.org, or at the Okanogan County Fair Office, 175 Rodeo Trail, Okanogan. Applications must be turned into the Fair Office by Aug. 1. Horsemanship is not a requirement. For more information, call (509) 322‑2477.
