The new Winthrop public library — nearly six years in the making — had its grand opening last Saturday and welcomed more than 300 visitors who showed up to help celebrate and tour the space. The library was open for business as well: 280 books and materials were checked out, and 47 new library cards issued. The facility was built by the nonprofit Friends of the Winthrop Library, which will turn it over to the Town of Winthrop. NCW Libraries will provide staff, equipment and materials for the new library.
