Kids’ Bike Rodeo at Pearrygin
The annual Kids’ Bicycle Rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. – noon on Saturday, June 11, at the Pearrygin Lake State Park east boat launch parking area.
The event is designed for children aged 5 – 10. Participants will learn skills to ride safely, including hand signals, negotiating corners, riding a straight line, and stopping and starting. Volunteers will also conduct bike helmet fittings and bike safety inspections.
Registration for the free event begins at 9:45 a.m. A signed parent permission form is required and will be available at registration. Bike helmets are also required to participate in the event. Bicycle helmets will be available for a $5 donation.
The Kids’ Bike Rodeo is co-sponsored by Methow Cycle & Sport, Washington State Parks/Pearrygin, Aero Methow Rescue Service, Winthrop Kiwanis, Fire District 6 and the Twisp Police Department.
Kids’ fishing day at hatchery
Saturday (June 11) is Methow Valley Kids’ Fishing Day at the Winthrop Hatchery on Twin Lakes Road. The free event is from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Kids can fish for big trout, try casting, hear storytelling by Dayton Edmonds, learn about beavers, fly-tying and salmon cooking, and enjoy other activities. Mountain biking for women
The Radical Roots Women’s Mountain Bike Skills Camps is scheduled for June 18 – 19 as part of the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance Singletrack Solstice Celebration. The program includes skill development sessions in the mornings and small group instructional rides in the afternoon. Register at www.evergreenmtb.org/methowcelebration. Appropriate for all levels, instruction ranges from basic front wheel lifts and switchback turns to technical climbs, descents, drops and jumps. Cost: $395.
