At a somber Memorial Day ceremony at Sullivan Cemetery in Winthrop, families, friends and neighbors came out to honor the Methow Valley veterans who’ve given their lives serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
People paid their respects as they strolled through the verdant grounds, placing fresh lilacs and apple blossoms on graves and lingering with family and friends as they remembered those they’ve lost. One Desert Storm veteran walked among the tombstones, saluting every one who’d served.
The American Legion Auxiliary placed flags on veterans’ graves at Sullivan Cemetery and at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Twisp.
