Launched during the pandemic and now an annual event, the senior class parade takes the graduates on a tour of valley, starting from the Hank’s Harvest Foods parking lot at 4 p.m. on Friday (June 3). Viewers can watch the parade from any point on the route.
The Methow’s 56 graduating seniors, including 10 from the Independent Learning Center and two home-schooled students, will be celebrated with a festive parade from Twisp to Winthrop and an outdoor commencement ceremony on Friday (June 3).
The parade, which was devised in 2020 because of the pandemic, has proven so popular that it’s become an annual tradition. Graduates personalize their cars for the procession, which goes from Twisp to Winthrop and Twin Lakes Road before arriving at the school campus for the ceremony.
Staging for the parade starts at Hank’s Harvest Foods at 3:30 p.m. The parade leaves at 4 p.m. and passes by well-wishers in Twisp before heading to Winthrop on Highway 20. It’s expected to arrive in Winthrop at around 4:30 p.m.
The procession will loop through Winthrop and along Twin Lakes Road to allow more community members to cheer on the grads.
Awards and scholarship ceremonies, photos and a slideshow will take place earlier in the week.
The commencement ceremony will be on the school ballfield and is open to anyone who wants to attend. Families of the graduating seniors will have designated seating. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony starts at 6 p.m.
