The Sun Mountain 50-kilometer run — part of a series of Methow Valley long-distance races offered by Rainshadow Racing — took place last Saturday (May 21) on the Sun Mountain trails system. Earlier, Rainshadow offered a 50-mile race at Sun Mountain, and the day after the 50K runners took part in another race that covered a mere 25K. The races started and finished at the Patterson Lake cabins. The overall winner of Saturday’s race was Canyon Woodward of Franklin, North Carolina, in a time of 4:04.50. The first local finisher was Nick Littman of Winthrop, in 12th place overall with a time of 4:41.24. The top local women’s finisher was Bri Boley of Winthrop, who finished 28th overall and 7th among women competitors with a time of 5:14.56. Elena Horton of Allston, Massachusetts, was the top finisher among women, taking 11th place overall with a time of 4:40.11. More than 180 runners finished the sold-out race, according to results provided by Rainshadow Racing.
