
Dan and Meg Donahue will welcome customers inside their new facility when Blue Star Coffee Roasters hosts a grand opening on May 21.
Blue Star Coffee Roasters will host a grand opening of its new facility on Highway 20 in Twisp on May 21, including seating in the indoor coffee bar and retail area, along with expanded hours of operation.
Blue Star partly moved into the new location last year, from its former, much-smaller roastery and retail outlet on Twisp Airport Road. A take-out only window has been available at the new building since October 2021.
Co-owner Meg Donahue said this week that Blue Star’s final move-in was completed at the end of March. She and her husband, Dan, have been waiting for the grand opening — delayed by COVID with all its implications and complications — since work began on the new facility in late 2019.
As of May 21, the take-out window will close, Donahue said. New operating hours will be 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Orders can still be made online at the Blue Star website, or via the Toast app (https://toasttakeout.com) and picked up inside at the coffee bar.
Donahue said the grand opening will include special drink offers and commemorative gifts. “It will be a festive occasion,” she said. “We can’t wait to welcome people into the space.”
The new facility is at 1240 State Route 20 on the site of the old Coyote Ridge Automotive Repair & Sales building. It includes a generous area to accommodate foot traffic patterns within the coffee bar. A bright, airy public space wraps around two work stations where customers will order Blue Star’s signature coffee drinks, hand-roasted bagged coffee, locally sourced pastries, apparel, and coffee brewing equipment. There’s also a training station for Blue Star baristas as well as employees of Blue Star’s wholesale customers.
Storage for green coffee beans, a weighing and packaging counter, and a shipping station flank the large roasting zone, which is visible through large windows in the public seating area, allowing customers to watch the art of coffee roasting in action.
