As late-season snow piled up in the mountains, work continued on clearing the North Cascades Scenic Highway (SR 20) for travel. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), whose annual snow-clearing work began March 28, “Last weekend’s winter storm didn’t set the spring clearing effort back too much and on the east side the crew cleared into the Cutthroat avalanche paths between milepost 165 and 164.” On the Methow Valley side, SR 20 is open to the Silver Star gate west of Mazama.
